Attention All Self-Funders – Are you paying care fees for either care at home or in a residential care home? If so, please read on.
In October 2023, a lifetime care fee cap of £86,000 is being introduced.
However, in order to take advantage of that care fee cap, a Local Authority needs to know that the person who is receiving self-funded care exists.
We are advising all our clients that from April 2023, they should contact the Local Authority and ask for an Independent Personal Budget (IPB) to be calculated and ensure that all their eligible needs are included. Any money spent on care has to recorded on the Independent Personal Budget so that a self-funder can show payments made.
We are also reminding our clients that should there be a change between the date of assessment, to the date the care fee cap is introduced, there will need to be a re-assessment of the care needs and the personal budget will also have to be adjusted.
The care fee cap legislation is complex and anyone who is funding care at home or in a residential care home and has not engaged with the Local Authority, might want to call Steene Law Ltd for free chat, as there is a lot that needs to be considered in order to take advantage of the £86,000 lifetime care fee cap.
